It is staffed mainly by volunteers and aims to provide independent, impartial and international coverage.
The website is owned and editorially controlled by a not-for-profit social enterprise, Centenary Digital Ltd.
It contains news items, videos, details of events, educational resources, and links to articles and blogs.
The site also includes a summary of organisations who are involved with the study of the First World War, or who are planning Centenary events.
Where possible and relevant, we refer to sources of information, and provide links to external source websites.

Le Centenaire dans l’Etat (australien) du Victoria http://anzaccentenary.vic.gov.au/ The State Government has established the Victorian Anzac Centenary Committee under the leadership of former Premier, the Hon. Ted Baillieu, MLA, to provide advice on how best to commemorate Victoria’s involvement in and contribution to World War I, and to help support community involvement.
The Committee will also be working to ensure that there is the opportunity for every community in Victoria to participate and to develop its understanding of Victoria’s role during the war.
The primary role of the Committee is to advise the Government, through the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, the Hon. Hugh Delahunty, MLA, about priorities for the Centenary and to make recommendations to him in respect of proposals submitted to the Committee or the Government more broadly.
The Committee will also have a role in assisting the Government of Victoria to engage with Victorians and to provide advice to communities about proposed initiatives and events.

Just over 100,000 New Zealanders served overseas in the First World War, many of them young men who had never left home before. More than 18,000 died as a result of the war and over 40,000 more were wounded. Our forces were involved in the conflict from the capture of Samoa in 1914 to the end of the fighting on Armistice Day in 1918, and they fought at Gallipoli, on the Western Front and in the Middle East.
The First World War (1914–1918) was one of the most significant events of the 20th Century and had a seismic impact on New Zealand society. Ten percent of our then population of one million served overseas, of which more than 18,000 died and over 40,000 were wounded. Nearly every New Zealand family was affected.

World War I, 1914-1918, was the ‘Great War’, the ‘war to end all wars’. In that conflict, the most important battleground was the ‘Western Front’ in France and Belgium where great battles were fought with names that were once household words in Australia — Fromelles, the Somme, Bullecourt, Messines, Passchendaele and Villers–Bretonneux. Of the more than 295,000 Australians who served in this theatre of war in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF), 46,000 lost their lives and 132,000 were wounded.

Rabaul to play an important role in the ANZAC Centenary

The ANMEF (Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force) & Rabaul Association was formed in 2013 for people who have an interest in Australia’s colonial and military history in Papua New Guinea. On and around 11 September this year, the Association will mark the centenary of the capture by the Expeditionary Force of the German wireless station at Rabaul, a significant Australian military victory in the early part of the Great War of 1914-18.

La Nouvelle-Calédonie et l’Océanie à la veille de la Grande Guerre : mise en place des zones d’influence et enjeux dans le Pacifique
Conférence le mardi 3 décembre 2013 à 18 heures au Rex de Nouméa

Alors que viennent d’être lancées à Paris l’ensemble des manifestations autour de la célébration du centenaire de la Grande Guerre où de nombreux Calédoniens périrent, le musée de la ville de Nouméa et l’association Calédoniens ont souhaité accompagner cet événement en proposant une conférence permettant de rappeler quelle était alors la situation géopolitique dans le Pacifique.
En Océanie, plutôt que s’accaparer par la violence de nouveaux territoires, les empires coloniaux déjà établis (européens, américain, asiatiques), s’emploient à développer des sphères d’influence et à négocier de nouveaux partages, sans guère de prise en compte des populations autochtones.
Cependant, au tournant du XXe siècle la présence de l’Allemagne est un motif d’inquiétude pour les puissances plus anciennement installées, qui sont aussi préoccupées par la nouvelle politique impérialiste du Japon.
Après avoir dressé un état des lieux de la zone, cette conférence s’attachera ensuite à présenter l’engagement et l’implication possible des populations en cas de conflit majeur.
